This week, I had success on my first article analysis for our research assessment. I chose to dive deep into the different genetic tests by annotating the research paper, “Genetic diagnosis in the fetus.” Understanding the processes behind various genetic tests were beneficial. Moreover, learning about the potential causes for error guided me to models I could develop for my original work that will be perfect for educating the public and for use in a clinic. One question I want to research further is how maternal and fetal cells are different to lower the inaccuracy of these tests. Although I knew that it was challenging to read a research paper, I hadn’t anticipated how much further research I had to conduct to understand the jargon. However, I went back and reviewed my understanding from previous medical classes. I want to develop strategies to understand these research papers in a more in-depth review.

Finally, I finished polishing our resumes and conducted our etiquette breakfast. It was amazing to walk through potential scenarios and have breakfast professionally with my talented peers.

Next week, I will narrow my search to interviews through the cold call and emailing strategies. Furthermore, I plan to dig deep into creating a vision of my original work.

I am grateful for my experiences at ISM, and I can not wait to learn more.
