This past week in ISM has been incredible. The journey of writing about my career outlook was illuminating. Although I enjoyed annotating my article about a medical geneticist, writing my research assessment was difficult. I hope to work on my cohesiveness and efficiency throughout the year. The field of genetics is incredibly vast. Since I had no particular group of diseases I wanted to focus on, I chose to study the career as a whole. Through this, I have narrowed down and set my career towards a concrete goal, scouted the job market, and gained a sense of direction of what professionals to contact for my interviews. I was surprised that clinical geneticists work with patients of all ages and handle rare and prevalent hereditary disorders. A question I'm researching is the balance of accommodating and learning about all of the geneticists' patients.
Next week, I plan to streamline my resume to convey my sense of integrity, passion, and perseverance. Moreover, I will generate a list of questions to begin interviewing. I am also curious to learn more about medical geneticists and if certain hospitals offer additional availability to conduct research as I want a balanced work setting.
I can not wait to be immersed in the field and learn from my mentor.
