Next Steps

After nine weeks in ISM, I have grown in many aspects, including professional communication, networking, and writing. To build a foundation for my career, I have analyzed several research papers and interviewed professionals in the field of genetics.

This week, I had another interview focusing on the career of a professor at a University. It was interesting to note the differences between working for a medical institution and a university. Moreover, I reflected on my time in ISM to write thank you notes to various professionals and completed my Business Symposium Reflection. It was more challenging than I thought to sum up my time at the Business Symposium and pinpoint specific takeaways, but doing so allowed me to create detailed goals for the upcoming quarter. I plan to continue working on my reflection skills to measure my growth over the year.

Next week, I hope to create a concrete Original Work Plan and talk to more professionals in the field to narrow my focus. Furthermore, one question I expect to continue researching is the job market for medical professionals since it is such an extensive field. My interviews with professors, researchers, physician-scientists, and genetic counselors have elevated my understanding of genetics - and I will utilize this information in my product.
