This week was an incredible experience. I had the amazing opportunity to learn from my peers and their research. As I present my research speech, I want to make the field of immunology and microbiome applicable and approachable to my peers. I want to hone my skills of communication as well. I focused heavily on working to understand bacteria and how they influence immunity by analyzing research papers, learning about microbial composition, and watching research presentations.

Next week, I plan to research the different bacteria present in the human body and how they correlate to the health of the human body. Moreover, I will explore the field of quorum sensing and bacterial communication to understand how microbiomes contribute to survival more than our genes. Finally, I will learn laboratory procedures and map DNA and RNA samples from tissues to gain wet-lab experience. One question I am still researching is the applicability of mice model scenarios to humans as numerous research papers employ mice to mirror human body replications.

I will begin my Original Work Guidebook and start with detailing the microbial structure, the different bacteria present, and why they are important to consider. Through my work, I will motivate the public to learn more about the vast system of bacteria.
