This week in ISM was an important step toward my fall project. Not only did I set goals for my fall semester, but finished a research assessment that will help me with my Original Work. It has been more challenging than I previously thought to start my handbook. I had to read several articles on human microbiomes, my topic of research, to understand the vast extent of research papers in fields such as psychology, cancer, and immunology. However, with background knowledge, I was able to complete an introduction so that my cumulation of information applies to the general public. A question I am still researching is the development of human microbiomes in utero. I was also successful in writing my last interview assessment. Nonetheless, I hope to keep meeting new professionals and honing my interviewing skills.
Next week, I plan to gain wet-laboratory experience with my mentor and catalog my experiences performing laboratory procedures and technology. Additionally, I will continue to research microbiomes in terms of immunity and complete more of my Original Work. Moreover, I will continue working on my Research Speech Presentation and learn from my ISM peers and their interview experiences. I cannot wait to learn in a laboratory setting and learn from professionals and observe their responsibilities.
