This past week of ISM was exhilarating. I completed my first annotated bibliography on cancer genomics. Though it was a collection of just five sources, I gained a wealth of knowledge on the latest research studies on gene-editing developments, including next-generation sequencing and exome sequencing. Despite my belief that there would be a plethora of research published on various databases, I found it challenging to find relevant and high-quality sources. Another question I am researching is the potential drawbacks and unintended effects of CRISPR and Cas 9, as well as the costs and access of gene therapy to the public. Apart from this, I also polished my resume and submitted a rough draft. My finalized interview questions are ready as well.
Next week, I plan to finalize my resume by consolidating it. Furthermore, I will compile five more research papers for my second annotated bibliography. These steps will build a solid foundation for me as I venture out to cold-call, interview professionals, and plan my original work. Working on my professional emailing and cold calling will give me the ability to successfully express my motivation and passion to professionals without a personal or face-to-face connection.
ISM is truly a journey and I have no doubt it will prepare me well for the future!
